It's been quite a while since our last test. Last time the information we were able to gather proved invaluable and given how much the game has progressed in these several months we feel that we need to repeat it.

So, with that post I'd like to announce our second closed alpha test for CryoFall.

As before, each of these milestones is a huge step for us towards completion of the project! :)

The aim of this test is to:
* Get general feedback about all new additions into the game.
* Specific feedback about new important mechanics such as skills and tech tree.
* Possible general suggestions about future additions and roadmap for new features.
* Also to identify and fix any possible bugs that might be present.

Please note that:
* For now we can only provide a build for Windows, because other builds are still in development and will not be available until the actual release.
* The game is not even in alpha. It is still an early development build, so many of the basic features are still missing.
* You will need an Internet connection to play the game as CryoFall is designed for a multiplayer experience.


How to participate?
1) If you have already taken part in previous test - you are already set! Just download a new client when the test is live and join the server. No need to do anything extra. We will announce it here, so, please ensure you're subscribed to notifications from this topic - press "NOTIFY" button at the top of this page.
2) If you are new - you will need to apply to be a part of alpha testers team. Please fill in the form below and post in this thread.
You will be provided with an activation code for the alpha test of the game. To activate the access code you have to have an account on the AtomicTorch site. If you still don’t have one, create it here: https://atomictorch.com/Account/Register (https://atomictorch.com/Account/Register).

Application Form
Location - Country and city or at least a general region where you are (mostly to understand your ping)
Hardware and OS - General information about your rig and system
Internet connection - Type and speed of your connection
How much time can you dedicate - Just how much time can you spend on that and when are you usually free, your time zone (e.g. everyday on late evenings PST)


Example of a filled form
Location: USA, LA
Hardware and OS: HP Envy 17 laptop (8GB ram, 2 GB video), Windows 10
Internet connection: ADSL, 8Mb
How much time can you dedicate: Couple of hours every evening, my local time is GMT -10.

I'd love to test it, but i will have to wait for Linux. Last time the launcher didn't run at all under WINE when i tried.

We will be launching the closed test in a couple of hours! :)
I will post a more formal announcement soon.
Don't go anywhere! :) I hope you guys join us for the test right away!

upd: And the game is live! Just update your client and connect to the server! :)

Hello there again :)

I do not know where to post things and bugs and such about closed alpha 2.
It is a bit confusing as there does not seem to be a dedicated thread.
(there are even closed alpha applications in this thread)

Also, the launcher does not write any logs into its logdirectory which
makes the next thing even worse: after pressing PLAY all i get is a black window.

In more detail, i re-downloaded the launcher a few days ago,
deinstalled the old alpha version,
installed the new version (0.95),
Checked all the buttons and options (as usual, squirrely me, teehee),

Often games lock their logfiles while running, but in this case, there isn't even any file at all.
Not while playing, not after playing (i use the term "playing" here very loosely,
since i just sit in front of a black window.

Tapping, holding (or even caressing) [ESC], [ENTER], [SPACE] does not help.
The clioent briefly (4Kb) reads data and then quietly dies.
The launcher does not do anything either, No downloads, read nor write acesses.

(edited for more clarity and to remove the vomiting smiley, i fell for it again)

(i am guessing the second location is a remnant from closed alpha 1, IF so, such should be deleted by the de-installation)

@MenschMaschine, do you have .NET Framework 4.7 installed? Web-installer https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=55170 It's required. Perhaps that's why the game cannot launch.

If you have .NET 4.7 installed and the game still don't run, please open a new forum topic specifically for reporting this bug.
You could launch the game client directly from C:\Users\%1\AppData\Local\AtomicTorchStudio\Launcher\Games\CryoFall try it and the upload all the logs from this folder and share the link. We will check.

Yes, it's definitely looks like you don't have .NET 4.7 installed. I hope it's the only issue :-).

Yup, as you said, it was a .net issue.
Okay, i had to install Windows6.1-KB4019990-x64.msu from http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=848158
first, because
"The .NET Framework 4.7 on Windows 7 SP1, Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 and Windows Server 2012 has a new dependency on a %windir%\system32\D3DCompiler_47.dll file for WPF. It's required to be installed first before the .NET Framework 4.7 product can be installed. "

Now it works and i am ingame :)

MenschMaschine, I'm glad the game works good for you now. Looking forward for your feedback!


Everyone, I hope you will find time to play (and likely enjoy!) the game. A lot of work has been done during the last six months and we need your feedback to select the areas which we need to improve/polish and the new features to implement for the next milestone. As there are only a dozen of alpha-testers, every opinion matters and we will pay maximum attention to your feedback.

Update has been uploaded (both client and server).

Lots of fixes, almost everything that was reported thus far (that we weren't able to confirm).
Additionally, we also changed many of the things related to balance and prices of different things in the game. Let's see how that plays!

Please let us know if there any more issues left or if some previous issues reappear! But from our testing everything should be good now! :)

Edit: There is only one issue, and that is the amount of items in each pile in chests and player's inventory, that info haven't been saved properly. Please don't kill us. That's precisely why we do testing :)

It was the patch issue...
Please uninstall the game completely.
Then open AtomicTorch GameLauncher data folder (path to it is available in the Settings), and delete "Downloads" folder there. Then restart the GameLauncher application and install CryoFall.

So far the test is going great, however there is one thing that you guys haven't tried. And that is farming.
If possible, give it a go and see how it plays!
At the moment you can find seeds in the loot containers in ruins (specifically loot piles and supply crates).

They're here, the world is simply not so densely populated. We had too many mobs in previous savegames because the game spawned them again on every load, so there were about 1200 mobs when actually it's supposed to be about 300 (they're respawning every few minutes).
The server reports now that there are 270 mobs and indeed just walking for a minute I've met a dozen of various animals.

Lurler, farming is REALLY expensive at 50 sand per field, just like clay, it is a resource not very common.
25 sand sounds more reasonable for now.
Why do we need -also- FIFTY wooden planks for a plowed field plot?
For the next alpha test, it would make more sense if we have a Hoe to change the grassfloor to farmable land.

Note: With the reduced creaturespawn, it is now really hard to not starve, to fry things, we need animal fat. And surviving on berries alone is hard work.
Too many of the needed resources are to scarce and are needed in too great quantities.
Mainly Clay, Sugar and Bones (for glue, which is important for many armours).

I do not mean that we should get MANY of those resources, more like... clay and sand and sugar-spawns
should be 2-3 times as many, or cut down the quantities needed.
I personally would choose option #1 and spawn them 3 times as much.
Uhm, not 3 times as much resources in one spot, but three times as many spots.

Okay, just wanted to let you guys know that we have concluded this second closed test. The test went great and we collected a lot of useful data and feedback! We will now continue with the next part of our development plan. There are still quite a lot of things to do for sure.

Now to address a few things that were mentioned above.
Things like sand and clay will be completely reworked. In fact it is already partially done, but since we couldn't just replace the map without people losing progress so we didn't do it. But in the next test it will be completely different in approach. The same is true about normal minerals. I will change how they are spawned.
As for food and look balancing - we did one pass on it already, but I would like to rework it again. We need to make hunting more interesting. Plus farming, currently it was completely nonviable to do. It will be rectified in the next test.

Overall the test went great and we are happy that you guys have participated!
Hopefully you will be part of the next test as well!
