It was the patch issue...
Please uninstall the game completely.
Then open AtomicTorch GameLauncher data folder (path to it is available in the Settings), and delete "Downloads" folder there. Then restart the GameLauncher application and install CryoFall.

The crash was related to how we re-initialize NoesisGUI on reconnecting to the server (some UI objects were leaking and accessing them crashed the game with Memory Access Violation). It was resolved in the latest update v0.9.7.

Thank you for your feedback, MenschMaschine!

We just uploaded an update
http://forums.atomictorch.com/index.php?topic=952.msg6011#msg6011

Issues 6 (including "chiken", thanks for reporting!), 7, 11 resolved.

Issue 8 - current implementation of damage system requires refactoring to fix this and some other similar issues. We will address it in the next alpha test.

Issue 9 - AI is not simply work-in-progress - it's completely a placeholder! :-) So don't worry, someday it will receive a proper implementation.

Issue 10 - UI was updated so you will not see [X] button near your nickname (BTW it was not functional in the previous build, the server will not allow to remove the only owner of the door), but it's still possible by another player which you've added to the owners list to remove you from it. Yes, it might be exploited by griefers, but how often does it happens when someone is betraying you? :-) It might add some spice to the game. Anyway, we will return to discuss this feature in the future, when we will run the open alpha test and will receive more feedback from the players (and griefers!).

Regards!

Thank you for your feedback, Flessen!

We just uploaded an update
http://forums.atomictorch.com/index.php?topic=952.msg6011#msg6011

Some of the reported issues are fixed, but there are still some issues I need to comment:

Quote
With a UK Keyboard layout, the apostrophe symbol brings up the console which can be awkward when typing...
We will address this issue when will refactor the input system in the future versions.

Quote
One thing I would like to see: notifications when Hunger/thirst drop too low.
We want to implement a special "status effects" bar for such notifications. Perhaps it will work similar to how it's done in VoidExpanse ("low fuel").

Quote
I can attack boar through the wall.
Current implementation of damage system requires refactoring to fix this and some other similar issues. We will address it in the next alpha test.

Destroying floors and bedrolls will be done in the next alpha test.

Other issues should be already resolved!

I'm glad you're impressed with the game. Thanks for trying it! Your feedback is always appreciated!

Regards!

Update v0.9.7 has been uploaded (both client and server).

Fixed:
  • Crash when trying to join the same server you are currently on
  • Random de-sync issues (particularly affects the amount of items displayed in a container)
  • Messages about no recipes is displayed above recipes in the crafting window

Improvements:
  • Splitting item (RMB click) is instant now - without waiting for the server response
  • If you are the only admin there should not be "delete" button next to your name, even if it's not actually possible to delete yourself
  • Clicking on added or removed items (bottom right of the screen) should open inventory if it's not open. If you are already in a menu such as crafting station, etc. it should do nothing.
  • Ability to build floor under built structures
  • Map should always enable auto-centering on the player's character when opening
  • When drinking a bottle of water spawn an empty bottle
  • When refilling the watering can with a bottle of water spawn an empty bottle

Yes, now I'm able to 100% reproduce the crash. Will investigate and report it to NoesisGUI for patching.

A few other technical thoughts - it would be nice if the map would center on the player when you open it, but instead it opens to the same location it was in the last time you had it open.
That's because last time you manually moved the map. If you want to restore/keep auto-centering on your character, you need to press [X] button in this window.

Regarding the missing crate/container - it's very hard to find in the logs the reason what happens with it, but I guess it was simply destroyed and all the items disappeared. In the new version the items will drop to the ground in that case - so you will never lose them. The new version is already deployed and the client update is available via AtomicTorch Game Launcher.

Most of the issues are resolved now.
Also some improvements were done:
  • Destroyed container will drop the contained items on the ground
  • If you currently don't know any recipes and open a crafting station it should clearly state so. "You do not know any recipes for this crafting station."
  • Cannot pickup loot through character corpse (also it was possible to push corpses as they had physics)

Thanks for your feedback, Flessen!
I've investigated all the issues. The boar attack through the wall and problems with interacting after respawn are caused by a single issue, but I was unable to locate the exact reason - very likely it was caused by a network lag.

Regarding the crash on reconnection - it's very random issue and related to NoesisGUI. I would like to report this issue to their bugtracker, but for than I need the crash dump. The crash dumps are saved into %LocalAppData%\crashdumps  Could you upload it please?

A new build was just uploaded with some fixes, thought I'm not sure if the issue with respawn is completely resolved - it was related to the player state network replication and this part of code was rewritten to improve reliability, the issue seems to be resolved, but we didn't had time to test it thoroughly.

We just deployed new build with some fixes (updating according post).

I just want to comment on this:
Quote
A. The loglevel setting could be set to -INFO- (at least) as a default setting, after all, this is a test.
Better yet would be a setting for that in the options, so people can switch to -DEBUG- when
a bug needs to be investigated and back to -ERROR- or so when the bug has been reported and the log uploaded.
(correction: I switched to -DEBUG- and almost got a seizure when i looked at the logs 1,2 hours later, i of course expected them to be big,
but not -that- big... 150 Mb... ┬░grins┬░)
Actually we're (almost) never using INFO. Also DEBUG is mostly for networking stuff (logging EVERY command/packet). So by default the logger severity is set to IMPORTANT even on the server.
Perhaps further into the development we will reduce severity of most log entries to INFO level as they're not really that important :-).

Thanks for your detailed feedback, it's very appreciated!

Regards!

MenschMaschine, I'm glad the game works good for you now. Looking forward for your feedback!

Everyone, I hope you will find time to play (and likely enjoy!) the game. A lot of work has been done during the last six months and we need your feedback to select the areas which we need to improve/polish and the new features to implement for the next milestone. As there are only a dozen of alpha-testers, every opinion matters and we will pay maximum attention to your feedback.

Regards!

The most important thing is that you need to install .NET Framework 4.7 to run the game now. You can download it there https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=55170

Yes, it's definitely looks like you don't have .NET 4.7 installed. I hope it's the only issue :-).

@MenschMaschine, do you have .NET Framework 4.7 installed? Web-installer https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=55170 It's required. Perhaps that's why the game cannot launch.

If you have .NET 4.7 installed and the game still don't run, please open a new forum topic specifically for reporting this bug.
You could launch the game client directly from C:\Users\%1\AppData\Local\AtomicTorchStudio\Launcher\Games\CryoFall try it and the upload all the logs from this folder and share the link. We will check.
