While we are continuing with the development of the new version here is something I've been working on as well.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1p1gCWj9Ps
It is the new trailer intended for Steam Greenlight and IndieGoGo releases.
This is a very early and somewhat crappy version of the trailer, but I thought I would share it with you as you may give us a lot of very useful feedback, which I am looking forward to :)
Title: Re: VoidExpanse - Patch notes v0.9.0 EXPERIMENTAL
Post by: kyokei on July 28, 2014, 04:26:36 AM
I like the trailer, sadly had to watch it without sound due to being at work.
2 things I noticed were the lack of flashy stuff and second one was seeing I think some FPS lag in the first minute.
The trailer should be more extreme and more space like! And you should show some multiplayer action (I would still propose you add a party UI as this will really promote the game much more)

I really can't wait for the game to come to Greenlight so it gets some more attention. You guys have been doing an amazing job!

- Watched it again at home... I don't feel like the music fits the trailer/game... rest of the game is so nice and quiet and this is so super hyperactive/arcady!
I think with some polish and some more flashy stuff this will be a great trailer :)
Title: Re: VoidExpanse - Patch notes v0.9.0 EXPERIMENTAL
Post by: Tchey on July 29, 2014, 02:03:23 AM
Honestly, i don't like the trailer.

- The game is not sold as a fighting game, it's not hack'n'slash, it's not shot'm up, it's more like a sandbox space RPG, with fight, trade, mining, exploration, faction...
- The music doesn't fit at all. Actually maybe it's the music ingame ? I don't even know. I switched it off after 5 minutes the first time i've played, and never switched it back on.
- Void Expanse, the way i feel it, is a quite slow paced game, even if you go for a fighting career. And it's very good that way. I expect a more slow, cool, less electro, music.
- When showing character creation screen, go faster, show more portraits (oh, what about women ?).
- The ship is hard to notice when going via portal. Too small, and not enough contrast with background.
- Exploring huge galaxy in nice, the picture is good. Maybe show more different backgrounds and planets and floating objects.
- Maybe spend more time about Trading, and add Mining.

I'm very curious to know what you are going to do with the launcher now that you support Win, Mac and Linux. Also curious to know what you will do once you get on Steam.

Side question, did you upgrade the experimental version? if so then I need to update Kunix (I know you said not to update to the exp. version but I had to! ) :)

We're planning to port the GameLauncher application to Mac & Linux, but to do that we need to wait until the NoesisGUI team (http://noesisengine.com/) implements support for Mono applications.

Yes, we have updated the experimental build. Most important change - savegames system is fixed (v0.9.0 saves weren't working properly).

I have uploaded the new version of that trailer today. You can see it in the news post. The differences are very minor though, mostly small adjustments.

Hello.First i would like to say that i really love this game. The trailer is quite cool, although it needs some improvements!

-Tchey is right that you should show much more character portraits (and add some female ones). Just record alot of them and show them in time lapse ;)

-He's also right that when saying exploring a huge galaxy you need to show more different backgrounds and objects, but also show the STARMAP after showing the system map (i know that you are already showing it at the factions part, but you need to emphasize the huge.)

-Also show mining and trading. For trading just show buying some goods with a big cargo ship, show the route to the next station and time laps, sell the goods and show the profit (Also please add experience for trading. I've suggested 2 methods in the ideas subforum.
For mining just show mining different asteroids.

-Show some different ships (zoomed in) and (stronger) weapons

-Some multiplayer action would be super cool

VoidExpanse is updated to v0.9.5.

looks like the download is missing a a few files under server/mono - im getting 'file not found: \server\mono\iyb2lzz3.tpo ' That file doesnt seem to exist in the linux zip either.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/a0z5mclgahb11hi/Screenshot%202014-08-04%2017.00.18.png

no thats not right - it looks like manually extracting the files isnt working either.
edit2 - it looks like AtomicTorch.SpaceRPG.Common.dll is not extracting at all, everything else is working fine

Lancefighter, Hello! Seems like the downloaded game distributive was corrupted :(. Please could you try to delete all files from C:/Users/Andrew/AppData/Local/AtomicTorchStudio/GameLauncher/Downloads and reinstall game from GameLauncher? It will re-download everything and issue should be resolved then.
Regards!

If only it was that easy - same error, every time I download.
Title: Re: VoidExpanse - Patch notes v0.9.x
Post by: ai_enabled on August 04, 2014, 07:55:11 PM
I just downloaded all builds (Win/Mac/Linux 0.9.5) from the AtomicTorch.com - all extracting without any errors. Screenshot of 7-zip scanning Win build (http://sc-cdn.scaleengine.net/i/03df2abcf38054dae350acbcf684904e.png)
The "missing" file should not exists in any game build. I think ZIP archive was corrupted. There is MD5 hashes of correct archives:
BCFE0C8F51E82822321154A4BE9CBAE4 - VoidExpanse_Linux_x86_v0.9.5.zip
02EA116D442E516646895620852AAB26 - VoidExpanse_Win_v0.9.5.zip
Title: Re: VoidExpanse - Patch notes v0.9.x
Post by: Lancefighter on August 04, 2014, 08:52:35 PM
I am getting those values, and verifying through the md5 hashes, and yet it is not installing. I guess I try wiping and reinstalling everything

edit

Okay so back in confusingland - Whenever I try to extract the AtomicTorch.SpaceRPG.Common.dll (in voidexpanse_win/server/mono), the extract seems to fail somehow. 7zip and windows are both unable to do this. As a note, it doesnt actually throw an error - it just .. doesnt work.

This file seems kinda important to actually run the server.. (which is something I have been doing). Does extracting the archive and running the server work for you?
Title: Re: VoidExpanse - Patch notes v0.9.x

Maybe it's antivirus removing the file or blocking it?
Title: Re: VoidExpanse - Patch notes v0.9.x
Post by: Lancefighter on August 04, 2014, 11:44:29 PM
I... what. Of course that would be it. Except why would it work perfectly fine in the last version, and start throwing a tantrum now?

More importantly, why do I still have this piece of shit antivirus installed.. (am mad, dumb thing has done nothing but cause problems.)

You guys are really motoring through versions!
It's good to see these bugs being so quickly addressed  :)

While it didn't impact me directly, thank you for the mention to the scripting API up there.  Nice to get a heads-up on the changes both to the game itself and the inner workings.

And like Flessen said, good job cranking through all the bugs!

VoidExpanse v0.9.9d released today as hot fix for several small issues, sometimes leading the game server to crash.
Please update if you experience any problems while playing.
Regards!

Yes, there will of course be 0.10.x. There is a lot more work for us before we can call it 1.0.x
