This is not enough for a separate blogpost, but I wanted to still share it. So, here it is on the forums!

Basically what it is - is a display case. You can put any items inside to display them in your house. Or you can create a museum with paid admission with some rare stuff :)
Yes, paid admission will be possible with a special device like in subways where you have to pay to pass through.
But it's a bit early for that, of course. For now just what you see above :)

That's an... unexpected question :)
Well, we did plan for you to be able to put animal trophies in there (like wolf head and such) but certainly not body parts :)

Initially I was hoping we could finish farming today, but it doesn't look like we will be able to, so I will post that next week in our blog. So for now here's a small pic of the gems that you can find in the game. And yes, they will be equally as rare as in reality. Forget other games where you can find gems like dirt everywhere. Here it will be an item of luxury that rarely anyone can afford! :)

PS - as always props to our artist for the amazing art :)

I wonder what you guys think of this approach to farming mechanics. Specifically, as you see above - making seeds craftable and requiring additional resources depending on the amount that is possible to harvest from a single plant, number of harvests and how difficult it is to raise a particular plant.
The tomato plant in the example above gives quite a lot of tomatoes, so to offset the ease at which you receive them - I decided to make the recipe for actual seeds a bit more difficult and requiring you to have fertilizer. Other plants also have different recipes depending on particular plant properties.

The way I try to design that stuff it to completely ignore other games and their mechanics and just try to think how it would be most fun while being most balanced. Hopefully you guys share this approach, even if it is a bit unorthodox :)

Anyway, I'd like to hear your opinion on that :)

Hi,

Is there a quality system ?

I'd like one day to see a game with quality vegetables are not the ones made with chemical and machine, but the ones planted by hand with selected seed from the best breed... Just like in real life, i you eat one "real hand made" apple, tomatoe or basically any kind of food, you can't ignore the difference with the "industrial" apple... More taste, better nutriement, need to eat less to fill full and well...

Certainly not for the time being, as we didn't want to overcomplicate the system from the very beginning. But we are absolutely open to such things in the future when we have better idea of how it all plays together and how people use what we already have.

As for having more meaning in using different food - there will be a system that will track what your character eats and give you different effects accordingly (either positive or negative). This will be implemented during beta phase most likely.

Either way, I personally think what we have now is quite fun as-is. Hopefully we can launch the next closed test soon, so people can give in a try finally! :)

If they are different "levels", that's the kind of "progress" i don't like much in survival games. For some tools yes, wood < stone < iron makes sense, but i can drink as well in a wooden cup as in a glass one.

Anyway, the art of the game is cute and readable so far, and i only want to see more.

No worries, we aren't blindly following what's considered "the norm", even for the most trivial things we are trying to find some new ideas that would make the game a bit more interesting and engaging :)
Same applies here, depending on what you are after you might use different types of the same item.

We've just finished adding this new suit!
But frankly we aren't entirely sure what to even call it now :)
It is supposed to be a good combination of conventional armored suit as well as environmental protection suit (aka hazmat).
As you can see in the screenshot below we are currently just calling it "Environmental Protection Armor", but I don't really like that name. Not to mention it's too long.
Maybe you guys have some better ideas what to call it?

PS - another interesting thing about this armor is that it occupies all three slots (head+chest+legs) unlike all other armor sets.

I was wondering where were the updates !

Well about the production chaines, it's classic and effective, i would say. I hope there are more than one ressource for each material. For example sugar from at least 4 different plants - i don't know their names in english. Under ground, ground, tree, flower...

I like the arts, also.

Guys! We will have the second closed test VERY soon.

Right now we are implementing (or rather ai_enabled is implementing, I should say) the new serialization library to enable the game to save and when that's done we will launch that second closed test. I really hope you guys can be a part of it!

Although, I must say again that there won't be a linux build any time soon, sorry. We just can't afford to split our efforts into supporting several OS at this point as this would only slow the development down. The plan it to have a solid beta first, and then, when it's quite close to being ready, then we will be able to also create and support other OSes. But linux build is certainly a priority for us. Our first two games were received very well by the linux community, so we certainly wouldn't want to disappoint you guys with this one :)

I understand Linux coming later in development, and i trust you for doing a good port then, as your previous ones where nice with great suuport. As long as it's good for release day (and not 2 years later like some other devs...) it's fine.

I completely agree with the Linux client - but once you guys do a more public launch then I have to say that you really need to support the 3 OS's. Games with early Linux support are highly appreciated by the community.

I sadly don't run Windows anymore so I won't be able to help out on these tests.

btw Lurler, Kunix is ready to host a dedicated server for Cryofall

Certainly, we plan to have a whole bunch of different environmental effects and anomalies.
Well, otherwise there wouldn't be a reason to have so many stats in an armor :)

Probably not, because they need to be there for that effect to work. But maybe we will add separate exploding barrels that could respawn or something along these lines.

What are the colors for ? My guess :

Green - positive
White -
Orange - severe
Red - emergency

You were almost correct with your guess regarding the colors :)

It's actually slightly simpler than that:
* Negative: yellow, orange, red (depending on intensity)
* Positive: light green, green, dark green (depending on intensity)
* Neutral: white

As for Linux - It is absolutely on our list! However, as we mentioned several times before we will not be able to start the work on that until the game is in relatively stable state (and our team as a whole in a better financial state), so for now it will have to be Windows only. But as soon as we feel the game is stable enough and doesn't require constant changes of its guts then we will create versions for Linux and Mac. Otherwise we will simply be splitting the development efforts and only slowing down the whole thing.

Good to read Linux is on the list. I know about the "obstacles" part and as a small team, you have to prioritize.

I showed some of those pics before, but now as we finally added the status effects (see the previous blog entry) we also finalized all medical items and added proper effects as you'd expect them to have.
So far it plays amazing in the game! I can't wait for your guys to try the game yourself! :)

Seems good so far !

The arts are clean and easy to read in a quick look, i think it's important too.

I like the preventive drugs like IRL, for radiation but also some disease.

What about Vaccins ?

Sure, we will consider something like that in the future, but certainly not at the moment. There are still a ton of other things we need to implement first for the first public release.
But when the core game is complete, maybe somewhere around beta we will start looking at existing systems and expanding where it makes sense.

It could be for 1 week or so, to fit the gameplay, or cost a lot to produce, with maybe some side effects, like immune to A but more sensitive to B.

Just a little update guys. We have launched the server and everything works great so far. I've been play-testing it everyday for the past week almost. Bottom line is - we will launch it publicly within 30 days or maybe even less! :)

I'm happy too as we didn't find any serious bugs and overall the game is rock stable.
Bottom line is - the game is kickass, prepare to throw us your money within 30 days or maybe even less! ;D
Though, we are planning to release the game completely for free during this initial period!

While we are finishing up some infrastructural tasks (we call it "VoidExpanse curse") to be able to actually launch CryoFall here's something I thought could be interesting.

It is the first version of our tech progression in CryoFall.

- All technology in the game is separated into 5 tiers (each horizontal row)(not all tiers are complete at this moment, obviously, there's a lot more to be added in the future)
- Each tier has several groups (rectanbles)
- Each group might required some other groups as its prerequisites
- And each group has a large tech tree inside it with several dozens of individual technologies that you can learn

What we are trying to do is make it so each player pursues completely different path, thus specializing in a very specific field, making them competitive on the server and allowing for social interactions beyond just "kill everything that moves" you see in most other open world online games. Let's see how it plays out :)

Hi Lurler,
i know it has been months but currently its fairly easy to get all the technologies within 2 days.
Is that intended because of the current state?

I think current progression speed is fairly good. It feels quite enjoyable being able to unlock new recipes fairly often. I think it's not really about whether or not you can get all technologies within two days, but rather overall progression speed.
Plus, in your case, you are quite good at this game already, so you can progress much faster, not to mention that you usually play for quite a long time.
For a person who only plays 1-2 hours a day it won't be so quick :)

My point is - I think current progression speed is quite good. I played the game myself many times (I mean without cheats) and I feel that this speed is the sweet spot.
So, rather than making it slower - we will just continue adding new content to give players more stuff to unlock! :)

Some of the main changes in the next version will be accessibility and "signposting". From the testing of this version we realized that there are quite a few things in the game that are not self explanatory or apparent by themselves. This needs to be addressed asap if we want new players to pick up the game.

So, some of the changes in the next version will be specifically to help with that. Hopefully we will add quests & tutorial, new interactive tooltips, ability to use items directly from inventory, inventory help screen and other such things. Well, there will be new items, technology and other stuff as always as this can be added in parallel just by myself and our artist, while other functional features require complex coding from ai_enabled.
