I just thought of it. Since we have the modules that you can attach to your ship that improve it why not also have crew members.
You would be able to recruit these in various stations, get them via rescue missions or finding them drifting in broken ships around the universe.
The thought came to me after playing some FTL.

So each ship would have a few spots and each person would have a special characteristic which would level overtime based on the time he has spent in this ship. Think of here of special perks as in shield regen while in combat

When you would move to a new ship the level of your crew would be lvl 1 again. The progress would be per ship and would be saved. This means that if you would go back to an old ship then they would continue where they left off with their levels.

This would give a new edge to the game and would introduce a bit more choice making when it comes to your ship.

Help section / Question about Steam + server hosting

So a few days ago I wanted to get a new server up and running with the new unreleased version so that I could test the client + the server part in one go.
After copying the files from the Steam directory onto my VM I was unable to get it working.

AI, have you thought about how you are going to get VE server working within Steam? Are you integrating it in the SteamCMD?
Could I get (after your round of fixes that you will do this week) a zip with the server files for Windows and Linux please?
I know your focus is on getting the client working perfectly in all 3 OS's so I will understand if you can't provide the builds but I would still want to do atleast a small round of testing on the server part before you do the release to Steam.

Heya,

I've been discussing this with AI via PM's but I thought it would be time to make a post about it.
In this version the CPU load for VE server is at 20% with no one on and around 45-60% with 1 person playing on it.

Hi, it seems this issue has made a come back... I was playing today and again the pirates shields were down, he was at 2 bars health and it didn't matter how much I was shooting at it it wouldn't die, I had to wait for the shields to recharge a bit and then I could kill him.

First time I was using the Endeavour ship, second time the Freighter.

Can you let me know what you need to investigate this?

Hi,

I brought this topic up in some messages I sent to AI but I thought I would make a post out of it also.
One of the major pains at the moment is to update the server version, even more if your server does not have a GUI :).

I would love the idea to have an autoupdate functionality which you can put as an argument when you launch the server.
This functionality would then search for updates every ?hour? and then if one is found it would then update and restart the server.

Added to this it would be great to be able to run the server with an argument that it says to load the Multiplayer_save 0. This way people will be able to build in an auto-restart functionality for if the server crashes. At this moment I could do that but then it would be stuck at the "new or load" screen.

Another idea I just had is to maybe have a server administration webpage which can be access locally. Here you can see the players that are online, you can kick/ban users, whitelist people, chat with the players and restart the server.

Another idea which I have already posted but just want to say again is to show all server available in the server browser and add a "public / private" tag in the ServerSettings file to make it visible or not.

Anything to make running a server easier is really appreciated :D

Tab to show online people doesn┬┤t work
Asteroid scanning doesn┬┤t work... Have not tried it when not being a Prospector
World saves still freeze up gameplay for 1-2 seconds in multiplayer

Linux version:
- Things in the menu┬┤s don┬┤t look OK... all the screens go outside of the scrolling area... Seen this in Skills, shop, System, Galaxy,
- Enemy health doesn┬┤t update properly. Keep shotting them with lasers, they are full shield + full health and suddenly they die. When you lock onto them the portait shows the correct shields + health
- Energy, Shield and Health bar shows correct % but bars stays full

Hey devs,

Now that you made the step to go on Greenlight I think you should take some time and "pimp" up the forums a bit. You will see a big influx of people now and since the forums is an important part of VoidExpanse you should give it some love too :)

This happens when it finishes creating the world I think. There is also no world saved in the Mono folder.

A second thing I noticed in the linux version is that the windows server is also still present there.
A third thing is that the linux server takes the Settings file from the Server folder and not from the Mono folder, same goes for the ServerIcon.

In 0.9.0 I could host a server but the second and third point happened then also.

Sorry for the bad topic name... I've been writing down things that would seem cool to me to have in the game:
No need to go into everything and I will keep updating the list

- Borderless window mode
- Asteroids not disappearing when empty
- Flying debris through the map.
- turrets after being attacked not turning back to green even if rep is good.
- Civilian gear not "infinite" in starter base (new people joining won't be able to buy a mining device for example if it's already been bought)
- Zoom out more
- Camera position not equal (bottom of screen you can see less)
- More roaming ships (more allied fighters, etc), more in fleet size (for example 1 freight ship + 1 fighter to escort him)
- Dock-able planets
- Gather debris
- Nebulas
- Bigger asteroids so you can use them as cover (they reduce in size when being mined)
- Bigger spaceships that can be used as refueling stations, etc
- All ships should not be able to equip the best parts (should be limited due to ship build/ship cost)
- Ships should be upgradeable, upgrade separate slots and weapon slots and put a max on the number of upgrades. For example the Freight ship could get 1-2 weapon upgrades + 3 parts upgrades. Weapons could then be upgraded from lvl 1 to lvl 2.
- Better weapon looks on ship. Laser to look more like a laser gun etc etc.
- More ship debris flying when ships are destroyed. Debris to disappear after 1 minute?

So I was thinking in order for people to actually notice that there are multiplayer servers available to have them show automatically in the multiplayer server list.

My idea is that in the server Settings file you add a field to have your server be visible/invisible. If the server is set to visible then as soon as the server is up it tells the atomictorch master server that it's alive. Atomictorch then adds the server in the multiplayer server list (think off most multiplayer FPS games). If the server is down then it won't show there.

If the server setting is set to invisible then you can only connect to it if you have the address/ip.

This way, when new people buy the game and go for multiplayer straight away, they are given a choice of servers to choose from.

The idea came to me while thinking of ways to promote the Kunix server and the second reason was that the Atomictorch server has quite a high ping for me.

And then for expanding the feature you could add a filter where the player can choose a ping range etc...

Heya,

Not sure if anyone would agree but I find Warpstations to be rather easy escape points...
I remember from Freelancer that when you wanted to use the warp station you would be put in a queue and once it would be your turn you would align your ship and then warp.
I also feel that warping backwards is a bit meh :P

Is it maybe an idea to do something similar to the spacestation docking?

Hiya,

Didn't see a post about this one yet.

So I bought VoidExpanse today, am absolutely loving it.
First thing which directly really really bugged me is the ship movement, now let me explain.

Turning and so on feels quite ok but the accelerate and move back really doesn't. It feels way too arcady and way too fast for a big ship being in space.
Then you have the cruise control, which when you press S goes to an immediate stop. Now that saved me a few times but I should actually have crashed into the space station.

Is anything going to be done about this because I feel that 1) it makes the game feel like an arcade game when it's clearly a not and 2) it makes the game way way way too fast.

Anyone else feel the same?
