It will may be cool if we can create fleet with others players on multiplayer, right-click on a player's vessel, then "invite to join fleet" and finally we can see others fleet members on the minimap and see their HP/status.
Actually there is already a party function. You can join together and get all things as you explained. Plus shared exp.
