Longtime gamer from the Rochester, NY area. I first started playing space games way back on my C64. I'm looking forward to reading more about this game.

I heard about the game from a Gamefly link to ShackNews.

I'm TanC from Malaysia. I learned of VoidExpanse via Twitter via someone's retweet. Been stalking poor Lurler and AtomicTorch via Twitter ever since, before finally registering on the forums. :P

My first space game (first computer game for that matter!) was Wing Commander 2, but the last top-down space game I played was Space Pirates and Zombies (SPAZ). Been playing Smugglers V on and off but am currently playing Star Lords. I'm also a huge fan of 4x games and have played MOO1/2, BOTF, SOTS 1, SoaSE, Distant Worlds, Stardrive, as well as backed M.O.R.E and Predestination. As you can tell I'm a huge space game freak and I'm always on the lookout for more space games to add to my collection...and that's why I'm here. :)

Hello there,

Long time gamer here, currently in Galway, Ireland. First space game I remember playing other than Asteroids and Space Invaders was Frontier Elite 2 for the Commodore Amiga. Big Sci-Fi fan, have dabbled with EVE, Star Wars Galaxies, Star Trek Online and Star Wars: The Old Republic.

Found out about the game from a Facebook post from Community Manager Chris Priestly whom I've also met a couple of times at past Gamescom conventions in Germany. Looking forward to seeing more of the game and getting the chance to play it.

I am an avid MMO enthusiast who started on my journey through tabletop games like the original Dungeons & Dragons in the late 1980s and The World of Darkness games in the 1990s.  With the advent of MUDs, and chat-room RP such as AoLs infamous “Red Dragon Inn” and their early attempts at a Neverwinter Nights online game, I started making my forays into the digital world.  Previously any gaming I had done on consoles or computers had been of the traditional fare that was available at the time.  When I am not gaming, I am a Canandian-American father living in the UK.  The ex is British, my beautiful eight year old daughter is an incredible skater and is just discovering gaming herself.

When I had my first taste of Ultima Online, I was instantly hooked, as much by the possibilities, as by the creativity it took to bring such a game to life.  It was shortly thereafter that my MMO career, if you like, truly started.  The first game I tested was Everquest and hot on its heels was Asheron’s Call.  Between the two, I preferred the latter.  It’s unique approach to MMO environment mechanics, and the level with which Turbine interacted with their customers made me want to be as involved as possible in this great game.  I helped pioneer their volunteer GM program and quickly rose through the ranks to hold a top position before ultimately leaving after two years and have held similar roles with other MMOs over the years.

Additionally I have tested most AAA MMOs on the market today, some of which include Asheron’s Call, Star Wars Galaxies, EVE Online, Dark Age of Camelot, Everquest 2, World of Warcraft, Vanguard, Lineage 2, Dungeons & Dragons Online, Pirates of the Burning Sea, Age of Conan, Lord of the Rings Online, Fallen Earth, Star Trek Online, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Planetside 2, The Secret World, and more recently Neverwinter and a couple I can't mention which I am eagerly anticipating.  I carried on playing many of these, but the ones that made the strongest impact, particularly in the post WoW world, are those which are unique even when not being particularly revolutionary.

When I was pointed this way, I was really happy to see another space game being created.  Seems all of a sudden the genre is picking up pace as there has been a realisation there is a gap that is asking to be filled there.  I'm looking forward to seeing where this project goes and hope it's around for many years to come.  Best of luck guys!

Born in the 90's i grew up with a love of anything science fiction due to shows like Star gate SG-1 and from there Star wars and then Star trek and finally doctor who. at this point with netflix i'm catching up on older shows like Battlestar galactica, and a few others. Basically if its sci fi i've probably watched it, or its on my list to watch.

shortly after i discovered gaming  Diablo 1 was my first real game. then i got into diablo 2 and then Starcraft became a thing. this pushed me into sci fi games.

Nowadays i play pretty much anything but sci fi games hold a special space in my heart. I'm also a youtube let's player. im not well known but i do it for fun not for anything else.

im going to be perfectly honest here, i found the game through scott manley a popular youtuber, i was thinking maybe i'll take a quick look here to see whats up but then he said the game supports multiplayer. ( brutal honesty incoming) When it comes to space combat your game looks sub par compared to another game called Star Sector (SS), it also features proper space physics, 2d ships in a kind of 3d space and space exploration the difference is SS has by and far the best combat i've played/seen in a game of any kind. i can't quite describe why without using terms like, "it feels good" but it just tickles brains in a way that no other game has yet. The true difference in Void expanse's favor is that SS is 100% strictly single player and will never be multiplayer unless some intrepid modder figures it out.

That is where your game is ahead. because space exploration and combat is great, but its even better with friends.

Im am too a product of the 70's a thirty-something UK based player.
I grew up on the C64 for a decade, remembered playing so many great games on that, among them was Elite, and a ton of shooters like Armalyte, R-type, hawkeye, back in those days games had real originality not just sequels all the time..  Then I moved onto PC's games like Elite 2, I loved all of the Origin wing commander series, but my asolute best space game has to be Privateer back in is time it was amazing.  Also enjoyed Freelancer, Spaz, galatic civ 2, imperium galatica 2, sins of a solar empire, star wars galaxies.  off course i enjoy other game types as well and i did my time on WoW and DAOC like so many other folk.
I am loving the indie comeback, it feels like we're tapping into the raw talent that we saw back in the 80s & 90 with the bedroom programmers all over again, seen such interesting up and coming indie games.
I'm also loving the space game comeback too and i'd be lying if i said i wasnt looking forward to Elite:Dangerous, Star Citizen & Enemy Starfighter, its a great time indeed for us space game lovers.
I really like what I see in VE, I just wish I discovered it a bit later when its a bit more mature but I wil just have to wait  :o

Hello, I'm a 35+ year old dinosaur from Portugal.

Baal got me into this game. I have been gaming with him for a couple of years now, and a great space-sim has been on our search list forever.
I'm on day #3 and so far I'm loving it. This is the most polished alpha I've ever tried and it has so much potential. I'll be honored to be a part of the community as it keeps growing.

I've been avidly exploring the trading aspect of the game. I have a few suggestions already, but I'll post that in the appropriate forum.

Anyway, great job so far, let's keep it up!

I'm from the US west coast (northern) and was born to a family that loved science fiction. I was introduced to many sci-fi's from an early age including Robotech, Starship Troopers, Gundam, and Mech Warrior; all of which have had an influence on my interests. I enjoy hard science fiction so I like to know the physics and concepts behind what I see/read in stories and have even been working on my own sci-fi creation for 5+ years that goes in detail to the political, economic, social, and technological aspects.

I'm quite glad to see another person here who plays TRPG's and even more so that you are introducing your kids to them, I've been playing Ad&D for as long as I can remember with my siblings and still play other TRPG's when I get the chance.

I've always been behind in technology so I was introduced to gaming with older games like Super Mario Bros 3 (which was the most significant early one for me) and later Halo: Combat Evolved for the PC (around when the 360 came out). My current setup is a laptop that isn't too old but still shows its age in the technology world.

I enjoy almost any kind of creative game where I get to build something or explore with faster pace being better in most cases, although some turn based games I play a lot of. I actually found out about this game from Excalibur and have since played quite a bit both in single player and multiplayer, perhaps more than I should have at times.

Good morning everyone,

I just grabbed VE a few days ago after seeing it come up in my steam discovery queue, and after a meager 8 or so hours with the game I am thoroughly impressed. I am very excited to see where this game is going and what the community is going to do with it. I am looking to become a part of this community and would like to extend the offer of help in any way to both the community and the devs. I am 10 year IT specialist, that unfortunately couldn't code my way out of a paper bag, but I do know a good amount when it comes to desktop/network/system admin.

On a side note, have you ever tried to promote your game on the spacesector site? it might be worth while once its steam released.

Formerly alive here as MenschMaschine, i decided to create a new account so Discord, Forum and Game account and names are the same.

About me...
Well, i am old. Modding games since... i don't know, mid-80s. Back when it was hard work, i remember changing graphics for Pool of Radiance on the C64,
without harddiscs or such comfy stuff as internet. I do it for myself though, never released anything, so it is more "individualising games" to my personal needs.

I do not really follow the whole social media thing, i like being surprised instead of knowing weeks/months in advance about new games or new content in games.
I think i am a pretty pragmatic person and do not care for drama or people playing mind-games. Usually, unless accompanied by a winking smiley, i mean exactly what i say.

Obviously, that does not always go well in forums or chats, but... public spaces like that are not for people who cannot handle criticism (without being rude) anyways.
I hate vulgar spech and to me that only shows that the other person already has lost an arguement or is unable to participate in a civilized discussion.

I love languages and often my kind of humour is based on that, with  the added twist that i often think around corners, which also makes it no so easy to
fully integrate into a social environment as i expect other people using their brains when chatting.

°grins° Well, now that i alienated myself properly and opened up too much already, i'd be happy to see you all ingame.
