Is there a mod to get exact locations of meteors/drop pods?
« on: August 27, 2022, 01:54:03 pm »
Notably I'm playing solo on a local server, but yeah I'm wondering if there's a way to save some time searching those gigantic circles via a mod that just shows exactly where the meteors or space debris landed? Or does the game not share that information in any way accessible via modding? I'm just trying to get a bit of an accelerated play-through going for myself since I've already done it all before and walking around in a grid search for that stuff is a bit of a chore. D:

I just don't like wasting time if I can help it. xD

Hello!

I don't think there is such a mod though it's possible to create a client+server mod that will provide such a feature (a client mod alone would be not enough as the server doesn't disclose unnecessary info to clients).

You can use a hoverboard to comb the area much faster.

I think the closest thing there was to a mod that marked the items was an mod that used the prag locator and it showed all items...I have not seen it in awhile. there was also a mod that made the ground around items white to make them easier to spot. Again my memory may be wrong.

It sure would be nice to use a mod or feature similar to what the OP describes. (But then, it seems like modding for this game peaked about 2 years ago or more and has been in decline.)

(snip) ...there was also a mod that made the ground around items white to make them easier to spot. Again my memory may be wrong.

Even this mod would be appreciated. I don't suppose anyone else can point out this mod or remembers what it was called?

Edit:

I think the closest thing there was to a mod that marked the items was an mod that used the prag locator and it showed all items...I have not seen it in awhile.

I figured out the name of this one (or a mod very similar):
Automaton Item Detector

And, yes, it seems it can be made to specifically find meteors (but I'm not sure about drop pods).

Drop pods are called "Space debris" in this mod.

Well, I could not find such a mod. And, personally, I was looking for a mod which only makes Meteorites and Space debris easier to spot. Also, I think making the area around such yellow or bright orange would be more obvious than white.

So, I decided to go ahead and make my own mod to do just that:

[Client] Bright Meteorites and Space Debris

Well, it also gave me an excuse to try my hand at modding this game. (That, and I wanted to contribute a bit as I'd like to see more mods for this game. I think it's pretty sad how modding for this game has, apparently, declined since the "heyday" of around 2020. I don't see many new mods and it looks like many old mods are not maintained.)
