Game discussion / Re: Dinocide - boss levels discussions
December 07, 2015, 03:54:22 AM
I've finished the demo and killed the boss on my first run. I died once in the water level.

About the boss, it's good enough for a first boss, i think, but can be improved.

- Instead of several worms, i'd like just one big worm.

- At first, the worm moves only once across the screen, each time from a different border. Only the head (half on its lenght, maybe) is punchable. After a few hits, it comes into second form.
- Second "form", same, but instead of going out of the screen it turns over to be "double lenght". It can be in line, cross, up, left, right... what ever, but it's longer. Only the head is punchable (so 1/4 of its lenght).
- Last "form", same, but three lenghts, and again, only the head is punchable (so 1/6 of it's body).

- I'd suggest to make the border of the screen blinking according to where the worm will come, then move the worms out, so i can replace myself if needed.

Just my opinion.

I suppose you made a mistake uploading the Linux Demo. It's 50% smaller than Windows and Mac demo, and when i want to extract the archive, there is a message about an error when extracting.  Or i made a mistake ?

I did not have time to play much, only tried until i died in level 3. It seems nice, funny, simple, maybe too simple (i don't mean "easy" but not very hm... "deep" ?). I will try more later. Thanks for the linux version !

- The game really needs vsync because I get tearing and sometimes textures seem to shift
- Ledges and stuff still act weird, you get stuck, or it's not acting like it's supposed to.

Same here.

I've sent you logs and Terminal output from that last demo. Everything i've said before still applies exactly the same.

Hello,

I've sent you a PM with a link to the logs. I've also copied my Terminal output.

What i'm doing :

I start the game with a right click, launch with WINE.
Game starts.
Play the game.
I select a save slot (same result with 1, 2 or 3).
I can see a world map with a red circle. I hit Enter.
I can see a screen with a kind of inventory, empty but with 1 item to the left, and 1 item to the right, both without counter. All others are grey, with "0" counter.
Then i hit Start.
... and nothing. I get a small sound "bip" with one second delay after i hit Start. From this screen, i can only hit Return to go back to world map. If i hit Esc to Save and Quit, it does nothing, i'm stuck on the screen.
To exit the game, i must use Alt+F4.

Hm, what exactly happens? Have you selected "start" and pressed "ok"? If so - what happens?
Could you please upload log files? They are in the same place as for VoidExpanse.
If you have any crash dumps - please upload these as well. It would really help us to figure out what's wrong.
On the other hand - well, it's WINE we are talking about. It doesn't always work.
That's sad :)
But oh, well. We will have the Linux build eventually, that's for sure.

Bad news for Linux.

Still i tried the demo. I can launch the game with WINE, access the options, go full screen, change volume etc. Then i can see the world map, and the windows with i think Eggs and Tools to pick from. There, i'm stuck, i can't go ingame it seems.  Also, Save&Quit doesn't quit. I need to use Alt+F4 to stop the program.

I'm surely volunteer to test your demo ! Does it run on Linux ? I can try to run it with WINE if it's Windows only.

Heyos!

I can translate into Dutch and French and check the English.
For the French I would like to have someone else review it though (since I might be a bit rusty)

I'm french, I can check your translation, if someone tell me how.

Is the price going to stay 10Γé¼ or it's a preorder offer ? If it will be 10Γé¼, then why it's less expensive than Void ? New games should be more expensive, shouldn't they ?

Are you seeing Dinocide as a "small game" before you move to a larger project, or is Dinocide "large" ? From what's i've seen it seem not very deep or long, but i may be completly wrong.

Anyway, i like your studio and the way you've developped Void, fully open to community talks, and i'm preordering Dinocide right after i click Post.

I'd love to see a space Hulk VoidExpanse Hallway Xcom game.

Keep the universe, move the lore to +1000 years.

Have an overall view of a space sector, have a broken ship, instead of building a base like Xcom you fix your ship, to travel further in worst condition.
Can travel real time on the global map, similar to VoidExpanse.
When boarding a destroyed ship or abandonned station, turned based, and global map paused.
No new recruits, only a limited amount of scavangers you have to take care of.
They can evolve, equip... get hurt... die. You can fix them with robotic or other parts and limbs. You must take care of the mind, it's easy to turn crazy when your body is not yours anymore.

Something like that...

Hello,

On the main page, i can read : "VoidExpanse is available for PC, Mac and Linux."
It should be : "VoidExpanse is available for Windows, Mac and Linux."

I would say "yes but...".

- Don't release an early access. It has became a standard, and lots of games are unfinished after 3, 6, 12, 24... months or early and some without more than one tiny update every 3 months ! Even if you give your word you will finish it in 3 months. People are losing faith in early, you can feel it if you read some big websites, even on Steam's forum.

- Clean the bugs. You are one of the most reactive team i've seen, and i feel i can trust you. You are listening, talking, active but still keep a goal, not just follow the big guy yelling on the forum.

- The game seems "complete" but...

There is still a lot do add, crafting, scavenging debris, etc, but mostly, i also feel the univers is dead. I don't know what is it, it's not so funny to play more than several hours. All seems to be "cold". So because i can't find the "why and how" of this last point, i have to say "yes but...".

In my opinion, the way to go is not to release "Early Access", but to realease a full release bug free and feature complete, and then, continue to support your game. Look at http://arcengames.com/ for me this team is amazing, they keep supporting the main games for month, years, with patch to fix but also to add, all for free, with some low cost expansion sometime. Another amazing team is from http://www.starwraith.com/ (Evochron)

Voted "Yes".
