its super hard to make at 3 gems each, I feel it shouldn't break. really, I think energy weapons shouldn't break at all because the batteries already break, but def not something that takes 3 gems.
Given that it deals effectively 3 times the damage the actual useful lifetime of the laser rapiers is roughly 5-6 times longer. But I have to agree, it makes sense to make them more durable. So we are going to raise it 2X in the next update.
