Game discussion / Re: Is there gamepad support?
June 09, 2014, 02:25:21 PM
I suppose it is a matter of opinion, I grew up on consoles, Atari 2600, Vectrex, ColicoVision, Nintendo, Super No-Freindo, Ps1-4 Dreamcast ..and so on. For me what changed was moving out, a computer was the better option for a College student in the early 90's..After that no consoles till my oldest was of age.

The market did wane alot, and Steam/WoW type games kept it afloat. No arguments there.
For me a controller works, but not my fav..If I'm going to go do that I'll play Ps4 with my boys 4/15.

So, I can understand the need to have support for controllers..as I mentioned the 2 markets have merged more than not, and cross-platforming is a growing trend. For me an analogy that applies: back when, Musicians for instance generally were competing, not working together...It's just the changing times, highly influenced by the inter-web.

Besides, with all the games I play I doubt the the wife would allow me to hoard the big-screen.. ;D

Bug reports / Re: Launcher shenanigans
June 09, 2014, 12:59:47 PM
Not sure what happened, was playing the game when, all of a sudden, the game froze...or something. Basically the interface disappeared but the universe background stuck around. As I tried to get the game to respond I did the usual start pressing all the keyboard buttons ::), one at a time...nothing happened till I hit F7 or F8, that allowed me to change the universe color...it was quite bizarre to say the least. ???

Anyways the point of this post was to say that when I went back to the Launcher, selected 'check local data' it said my game was corrupt and to repair. Worked fine , so good job there..of note: I had to re-launch to 'Launcher' to replay the game, the option to 'Play' the game was not available till re-boot. :(

EDIT: Restarting the game took a little tweaking. The graphics on the game select screen were off. What eventually fixed that was to go to Windowed mode, the back to Fullscreen.

Mostly enjoying the experience. Made a Rogue/Priest combo for my initial party. For the most part I use the Rogue, using the priest for bigger fights/heal meat shield. I recently picked up the Fighter(can't remember her name at the moment)..she replaced as the meat shield, she hits hard but that's it.

I primarily run through the town looting everything, the Rogue has the Bush Hide like every other character, + Turn invisible 5 turns. I heavily abuse these 2 skills, also worth mention, I swap out the starting dagger skill, for Faster Stealth movement. <<<-----This is a huge difference, I don't find myself using the daggers too much, actually prefer a Ranged weapon early on. Went on to pick up the Water skill option to have access to rain...so worth it.

With this the Rogue in this game shines. I have looted ALL the town coffers, with no issues...plain and simple I just don't get caught. All this before level  4 ;D. My Priest and Fighter just stand in the middle of town, whilst Lilith(rogue) has her way with the town. Just started venturing out, and with all the looting I have accomplished I have a healthy pocket of roughly 6k gold...with plenty of items to sell still. Madness. :o

Updating the current playlist: Modded Civ5, Divinity;Original Sin, Endless Legend, Void Expanse, Tropico 5.

So it appears that the current menu is stacked with Strategy, with a dash of ARPG. 8)

As a 20+year pc user I am appalled at this controller stuff... but the option should probably be there. There is soo much cross-platforming going on. My 15 year old son would have a torrid time learning a game like this with  a keyboard.  ;)

Sorry for the bad topic name... I've been writing down things that would seem cool to me to have in the game:
No need to go into everything and I will keep updating the list
- Borderless window mode
*This is a welcome idea
Quote from: kyokei on June 09, 2014, 07:54:24 AM- Asteroids not disappearing when empty
*Maybe the graphic change to a 'mined out' version.
Quote from: kyokei on June 09, 2014, 07:54:24 AM- Flying debris through the map.
*more eye-candy
Quote from: kyokei on June 09, 2014, 07:54:24 AM- turrets after being attacked not turning back to green even if rep is good.
*by this do you mean permanent status? You are now the enemy..no hope for you or your friends, family, and pets.
Quote from: kyokei on June 09, 2014, 07:54:24 AM- Civilian gear not "infinite" in starter base (new people joining won't be able to buy a mining device for example if it's already been bought)
*this would be handy, updating shops.
Quote from: kyokei on June 09, 2014, 07:54:24 AM- Zoom out more
*YES...maybe even to a full zoom-out using icons to represent ships, docks ect..
Quote from: kyokei on June 09, 2014, 07:54:24 AM- Camera position not equal (bottom of screen you can see less)
*low priority but would be nice.
Quote from: kyokei on June 09, 2014, 07:54:24 AM- More roaming ships (more allied fighters, etc), more in fleet size (for example 1 freight ship + 1 fighter to escort him)
*possibly even clan wars happening.
Quote from: kyokei on June 09, 2014, 07:54:24 AM- Dock-able planets
*Making the planets more than eye-candy would bring more depth. Find ancient ruins,(goodie huts anyone)
Quote from: kyokei on June 09, 2014, 07:54:24 AM- Gather debris
*sell for spare cash or trade
Quote from: kyokei on June 09, 2014, 07:54:24 AM- Nebulas
*more eye-candy. Also can give depth to the universe(background)
Quote from: kyokei on June 09, 2014, 07:54:24 AM- Bigger asteroids so you can use them as cover (they reduce in size when being mined)
*A cover system is needed for sure.
Quote from: kyokei on June 09, 2014, 07:54:24 AM- Bigger spaceships that can be used as refueling stations, etc
*Similar to more roaming ships..adds diversity
Quote from: kyokei on June 09, 2014, 07:54:24 AM- All ships should not be able to equip the best parts (should be limited due to ship build/ship cost)
*a tier system would slow down rushing through it all..
Quote from: kyokei on June 09, 2014, 07:54:24 AM- Ships should be upgradeable, upgrade separate slots and weapon slots and put a max on the number of upgrades. For example the Freight ship could get 1-2 weapon upgrades + 3 parts upgrades. Weapons could then be upgraded from lvl 1 to lvl 2.
*maybe limiting this to a specific model of ships.
Quote from: kyokei on June 09, 2014, 07:54:24 AM- Better weapon looks on ship. Laser to look more like a laser gun etc etc.
*Agree
Quote from: kyokei on June 09, 2014, 07:54:24 AM- More ship debris flying when ships are destroyed. Debris to disappear after 1 minute?
*Realism vs Game-play vs Computer resources needed. This is the crucial balance.

Nice base!  ;D  You seem to like fire's.. (note to self keep him away from lighters!)  ::)
Yup I found out the by starting fires outside my base, I could use it as a defense. The raiders will either run through it ???, or run around it, all the while I peck away at them. It's also great as a crematorium  :o. No need burying the dead when thier ashes are Dust in the Wind. ::)

And I just want to add, that if you don't like "official" physics, you can always create a mod, that will change it!
Modding allows player to change almost everything about physics (except for some key game mechanics) - dampening, breaking, acceleration etc.
This is an important point. The community can start to devise new ideas, once these start...the exchange of ideas will blossom into new game concepts, taking some of the load off. All for it.

I also played Euro Truck Simulator 2 and really enjoyed it. I was so surprised I mean how much fun can lorry driving be but they nailed it.  I think I got up to a point after a couple of weeks were I had 10 drivers and 6 garages, and was super rich, then I lost the incentive to play after that.
Heh, my wife and I play some games together...Euro truck sim being one of them. Nothing like some pints/wine and some driving sims. I also play Rimworld, been following that game since Nov '13. Good times.
Some good ol' outdoors brawl

There goes Pete again, hunting Boomrats...

General Discussions / What have you, do you play

So we always need something to chew the fat on...What other games are you all playing, albeit currently, all time favs whatever.

For me personally: All time most played is probably Civilization 4 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civilization_IV), I have had a steady diet of this one for over 8-9 years. Yup. Nuts.

:Others in no particular order.. Baldur's Gate series, Many of the Fallout series (tactics) is a fav, Dues Ex (orig), Jagged Alliance Unfinished Business, Thief series, Rogue Legacy, I suppose we'll add in the MMO's... DAoC (Guinevere) many years, WoW (Cenarius)Several years mostly Beta-Burning Crusade 04'-07'ish.
There are countless others.

This time we don't want to rush it. We want to make sure that with this new update there would be actually something big, a reason to replay the game from the beginning :) There will be tons of new stuff!
And to make the wait easier we will continue to post sneak peeks every couple of days. You can always see what we are working on in the news, like for example this http://atomictorch.com/Post/Id1059 we have added mines to the game :)
Sounds great Lurler, I for one believe in quality, not quantity.  Mines!! (http://atomictorch.com/Post/Id1059), very nice..new tactical options. Are these subject to friendly fire? If so, will neutrals takes offense to it..  ???

Not sure why, but it took me a few looks to figure it out, even went as far as to google it..(that was interesting on it's own merit).. ;D. Then it hit me, I need more coffee.
