Some suggestions

Just a few suggestions ive been thinking of..
1.  Background radio chat would be good, like in spaz and the KSP mod, world feels more real with background chatter.
2.  Along with mining asteroids for ore, you could also have people scan planets for gases (once  they have bought an appropriate scanner) for missions to aid the cause.
3.  Debris collection missions for scrap metal, also to get rid of these things!
4.  Different Hanger images, I know theres some variation but its not much
5.  Passenger transport missions - higher reward for high profile transports
6.  Ability to recruit crew of differnt skills lvls to improve/automate certain ship features, eg Engineers give you faster energy regen, gunners improve fire rate & range/damage, etc,
7.  Have the 'kill 5 pirates' missions get improved by making them slightly harder every time but with more reward each time.

I like this idea, maybe something like The Fallout series. Having several channels to listen to; a music type, local sector chatter type, Alien propaganda type ect..

This is nice adding new layers of exploration.

This has alot of promise..imagine Repair parts, sellables, think Millenium Falcon jettisoning space junk out to hamper the TIE-Fighters...

Obvious quality of game improvement

Having multiple types of the same missions can help stamp out the .."oh this again" thoughts

Other games, most recently FTL use this option, can help create a more personalized experience...never a bad thing.

Similar to number 5, having multiple versions of a quest type can keep you coming for more.

I'd like to add , random events, both good and bad. Bonuses for helping fellow space explorers. For there to be differing pirate groups, that don't like each other.

Totally pro this. Random chatter and random chat from nearby ships would uplift the atmosphere of the game immensely.

Original post:

- Borderless window mode
- Asteroids not disappearing when empty
- Flying debris through the map.
- turrets after being attacked not turning back to green even if rep is good.
- Civilian gear not "infinite" in starter base (new people joining won't be able to buy a mining device for example if it's already been bought)
- Zoom out more
- Camera position not equal (bottom of screen you can see less)
- More roaming ships (more allied fighters, etc), more in fleet size (for example 1 freight ship + 1 fighter to escort him)
- Dock-able planets
- Gather debris
- Nebulas
- Bigger asteroids so you can use them as cover (they reduce in size when being mined)
- Bigger spaceships that can be used as refueling stations, etc
- All ships should not be able to equip the best parts (should be limited due to ship build/ship cost)
- Ships should be upgradeable, upgrade separate slots and weapon slots and put a max on the number of upgrades. For example the Freight ship could get 1-2 weapon upgrades + 3 parts upgrades. Weapons could then be upgraded from lvl 1 to lvl 2.
- Better weapon looks on ship. Laser to look more like a laser gun etc etc.
- More ship debris flying when ships are destroyed. Debris to disappear after 1 minute?

Quote- Borderless window mode
*This is a welcome idea
QuoteQuote from: kyokei on Today at 07:54:24 am
- Asteroids not disappearing when empty
*Maybe the graphic change to a 'mined out' version.
QuoteQuote from: kyokei on Today at 07:54:24 am
- Flying debris through the map.
*more eye-candy
QuoteQuote from: kyokei on Today at 07:54:24 am
- turrets after being attacked not turning back to green even if rep is good.
*by this do you mean permanent status? You are now the enemy..no hope for you or your friends, family, and pets.
QuoteQuote from: kyokei on Today at 07:54:24 am
- Civilian gear not "infinite" in starter base (new people joining won't be able to buy a mining device for example if it's already been bought)
*this would be handy, updating shops.
QuoteQuote from: kyokei on Today at 07:54:24 am
- Zoom out more
*YES...maybe even to a full zoom-out using icons to represent ships, docks ect..
QuoteQuote from: kyokei on Today at 07:54:24 am
- Camera position not equal (bottom of screen you can see less)
*low priority but would be nice.
QuoteQuote from: kyokei on Today at 07:54:24 am
- More roaming ships (more allied fighters, etc), more in fleet size (for example 1 freight ship + 1 fighter to escort him)
*possibly even clan wars happening.
QuoteQuote from: kyokei on Today at 07:54:24 am
- Dock-able planets
*Making the planets more than eye-candy would bring more depth. Find ancient ruins,(goodie huts anyone)
QuoteQuote from: kyokei on Today at 07:54:24 am
- Gather debris
*sell for spare cash or trade
QuoteQuote from: kyokei on Today at 07:54:24 am
- Nebulas
*more eye-candy. Also can give depth to the universe(background)
QuoteQuote from: kyokei on Today at 07:54:24 am
- Bigger asteroids so you can use them as cover (they reduce in size when being mined)
*A cover system is needed for sure.
QuoteQuote from: kyokei on Today at 07:54:24 am
- Bigger spaceships that can be used as refueling stations, etc
*Similar to more roaming ships..adds diversity
QuoteQuote from: kyokei on Today at 07:54:24 am
- All ships should not be able to equip the best parts (should be limited due to ship build/ship cost)
*a tier system would slow down rushing through it all..

*maybe limiting this to a specific model of ships.

*Agree

*Realism vs Game-play vs Computer resources needed. This is the crucial balance.

Definitely +1 to Borderless Windowed mode.

That is actually already possible. Since this is a unity-engine game, all you have to do is add "-popupwindow" to the command line (not the quotes obviously). This switches the normal windowed mode to a borderless one (it has no effect if you're running the game in fullscreen).

If you are using the launcher, you can put this into a special file where the command options are then read from. Create a file called ".launch_args_custom" as a text file next to VoidExpanse.exe and only put "-popupwindow" in there. Note to save it without extension (or save as .txt and then remove that extension).

Lurler

Some definitely great ideas. Added several of these to our to do list. Some of these will be in the next version!

Hammish

Figure I'll try to keep all suggestions in one thread here. :)

UI suggestion (not sure how difficult it'd be to put in): Power management tally.  Would be handy to have a summary screen that shows how much power is being produced by the plant versus how much was being consumed by systems either non-stop (shields and the like), on engine activation (engine + RCS), or misc.  It'd be a great help in determining exactly how much juice we had left to run the guns... or you could even include a figure in there for how much drain the guns would induce while all recharging.

Lurler

Detailed energy breakdown is planned, but it won't be in the next version since it will be a part of a larger stats screen which will take quite some time to implement properly. But that is something we are definitely planning before beta.

Hammish

Makes sense.  Will look forward to it. :)

I think this is more aimed at AI:

Would it be possible to add an option of visiblity in the server settings and make it so that when a new player starts up VE, goes to Multiplayer that he sees all the available visible servers? Instead of having to add them manually?

Thanks,

kyokei

So I'm now level 30 and I can get light cruiser ships.... the thing that bugs me a bit as a "prospector" is that I can't get a better freight ship with better weapon mounts. This means I am stuck with the lvl 1 ballistics weapons which don't do alot of damage.... Any ideas on what you are going to do to improve this?
I hadn't played for a while and getting back into the game I saw you added the Endeavour ( <3 that ship ) which was cool... would love a higher tier freight/miner ship too :)

Second thing which still bugs me is that I can't zoom out more. Not sure if more people have this "issue" but I would love to be able to zoom out more, just so that I can atleast see stuff which is within my radar zone.

We will think about it. Technically there is no problem in implementing it, as we already store all online servers list on the Master Server.

From the technical side, it will increase loading on the server and networking very hard - because it requires extending the scope size of the player (for example, every projectile fired far-far away will be checked every frame for enter/exit all players scopes in the star system, same for asteroids, ships, stations and any other dynamic object). But is not hard to try, only two constants, so maybe it's worth a try. Thanks for idea!

BTW, higher tier freigher/miner ship is would be a nice addition, but it's really can create a new gamedev meme "80 lvl miner", isn't it? :-)

kyokei

- :D lvl 80 top tier 1800 cargo 5 weapon slots freighter? why not! hehe
Maybe a third tier freighter would be a cool idea, with some level 2 type weapon slots.

Or coming back to my old idea, have upgradeable slots by doing research/pumping in money.
I'm not trying to seek to become a freight ship which can act like a fighter but having mines and 2 lvl 1 ballistics turrets is a bit meh :P Mines aren't quite usefull against pirates.

- About the field of view, I understand the reasoning around it, maybe we can test out some other values and see what the strain is on MP? if it's too much then just go back to the original value.

- About the server screen - this, for me, was more aimed at when the game actually releases on steam, as then there is a massive influx of players. Them seeing multiple servers without visiting the forums and manually adding will give them a choice of where to play. For example for me the official VE server is quite laggy. For Lurler kunix was very laggy.

<3 keep on owning, this game is going to become huge!

I don't know how is it going in your PCs, but I have rather laggy image in my screen. My Athlon 64 X2 5200+ 2.6GHz working full 100%.

Can you PLEASE make something about this? It's almost impossible to aim :'(.  It would be great if you add SUPERFAST 2D-MODE  to video settings (all game objects in 3d, aren't they?) - it should not be very hard to do and possibly allow simple mortals to play your game. ╨í╨┐╨░╤ü╨╕╨▒╨╛.
