semi-random events?

will there be semi-random events that can happen in a system when you jump in? like.. say.. a meteor is passing through and you could mine some rare minerals.
or perhaps a large solar flare could have reduced shield strength.

I could probably come up with a few more, but these are just examples I have in my head right now.

Yup, we would like to include events like that.

If you can come up with a few interesting ones it could help! Thanks :)

wow u missing ideas lol.
well u have a few:
1. attacks on stations  or u get points as attacker or defender
2. cover ops missions
3. mining speacal staff
4. push faction from system (defend / attack /delivery some item)
5. build up somthing in space:)

carch

those aren't really semi-random events. sounds more like faction missions.

a few more ideas:

(in safe systems) A mining boom has just passed, depleting most asteroids or at least reducing their mineral content for a while.
(in unaffiliated systems) a convoy from one of the factions is currently held up in the system due to engine troubles, might be worth the risk to loot the transports/offer to guard them as they repair the engine on the transport.
the market for minerals has been saturated (less value for your minerals)
the market for spare parts has been saturated (less value for components)
a special auction is going to occur for a rare hull type (maybe from a different faction? if they ever get different hull types) or for a piece of equipment that could normally be bought with science points.
A manufacturing drive has increased the demand for minerals
Everything seems normal, yet you feel as if the conversations with other people are unreal (maybe an infection of sorts that makes the system go into an all out free for all if you don't leave within a set time. Or. just. nothing happens.)
A group of miners have struck Microcline! (joking, dwarf fortress reference)
A military operation has greatly reduced the number of pirates in this system.
A particularly violent/powerfull pirate has formed his own band, and his pack of ships are a threat to al shipping (special bounty on the leader's head, but will be in a heavy frigate at least and escorted by several smller ships)

I'll keep thinking on them.

+1.  Requesting HFS.

If I may propose, I think rather than scripting random events like this, you'll get far more bang for the buck by merely simulating the operations of a universe and letting emergent things occur on their own.

This works for Dwarf Fortress, and also the X series as well.  I think this would be a far better approach, personally.  Forced eventing limits the capabilities of the universe overall.

carch, good ideas, thank you.
I will talk with the team to see which of these we can implement!
But we willcertainly add something :)

Some of that could work. We will see!
