Hey Lurler,

How's the Steam greenlight looking? what are the numbers now?

Is there anything that us users can do in the meantime to help out? (besides telling our friends)

Regards,

Lurler

It is more or less stuck at 90%+
I am trying to find any ways to bring more people to the project.
Just a little bit more and we would have been in top 100, meaning that we would have gotten a chance to be greenlit.

Greetings.

You should try doing some interviews with popular gaming sites; ask some sci-fi gaming sites to write preview about VoidExpanse; find and post info about VoidExpanse on gaming sites where VoidExpanse is still unknown(I am sure there are a lot of gaming sites who do not even know that VoidExpanse exists - example: death by beta, mmohuts; rockpapershotgun; mmorpg.com; alphabetagamer); Some of these webs(like mmorpg.com) post info not only about mmorpg but about other genres as well, so do not be afraid of their name; And lastly, try to post info about VoidExpanse on popular English gaming sites as well as Russian ones.

Hellwarlord.

I guess also some nice videos on youtube will do!
Maybe we can even ask youtubers to make a vid of void expanse testing it. But if you get someone who does not like it, it would even make it worse.

Lurler

Alas, but it isn't that simple.
We've contacted dozens of websites, youtubers and other media people, but generally only 1 in 25 even respond at all, not to mention giving us a coverage.

But if you know someone, or know some youtubers who would be willing to make a review or let's play we will provide gift codes for them (and for you of course) as many as needed.

How many votes is about 10% of what is needed? I have an idea which I will put in motion.
I am a volunteer at a technical youthcenter and I will get a mail sent out to ask if everyone can vote on VE.

I'll let you know when this has been put in motion

I've been getting the word out to my own friends as well, and around 10 or so have voted for the greenlight thus far.  How do you handle the gift-code stuff, though?

I'm actually part of the Old Timer's Guild which is a large collection of people across about a billion different games; I've mentioned it casually to some of the people in my personal chapter (for Wildstar), but I could always try dropping off goodies for people in the other chapters as well in an effort to get more folk trying it out.  The Star Citizen chapter in particular loves the notion of spaceships shooting other spaceships. :D

Sharing has been done at the youthcenter and at an old guild of mine.
Should see some votes coming in now.

Hi guys! Thanks for sharing our project!
To get to 100% we need around 400 more votes (already have 4950 votes). But it is only to enter the Top 100 Greenlight. Usually once a month Valve selects 50-75 games from Top 100.. 3000-5000 more votes will lift us to Top 50 and it will increase our chances to be greenlit greatly.
The good news is that a good YouTube LP can instantly give us 500-1000 votes (from a popular youtuber with at least 10k subscribers). But for some reason it's hard to contact with most popular youtubers, that's why we still have only one (plus one in Russian) LP for v0.9.5.

Greetings.

It is normal that many of them do not respond, but in websites like mmorpg.com; mmohuts.com you can post info about game by yourself, make reviews, make posts about latest additions/features/news, etc. In most cases you just need good writing skills and time to manage communities of these gaming portals. But, for example, if you do not have time to do this(because your main role & task is game development) you should consider hiring community manager and/or advertisement specialist. At this moment, one person with good writing skills and clear vision how to push product is more than enough.

About gift code system: Distributing gift codes to random people who will spam forums or write few messages about product wont have significant effect in the long run. What is more, it may 1) attract thousands of leechers 2) poor advertisement may negatively affect reputation of VoidExpanse 3) will cause negative financial effect on the company(as I have mentioned, if there is forecasted 1500 copies to be sold during release, by distributing 150 free gift codes you are cutting 10% from your revenue).

So I would advice to 1) Identify Top10 gaming websites and start adding basic information about VoidExpanse there; Add additional information about game features/possibilities/etc; Get several complete VoidExpanse reviews there; Constantly update it with info, such as patch notes, coming features, etc & manage community; 2) Identify large amount of Youtubers(Game Reviewers/LP) and distribute gift keys only to them.

@Hellwarlord I am so very impressed with the quality of your posts, may I know what you do in real life?

Ontopic: I would also suggest updating the Greenlight page with patch notes and links to the forum.
The vlogs are a good idea but they need to be worked on a bit.

Nothing serious yet, studying finance.

I'd agree with handing out 100.  But if you hand out 5-10 codes to major groups, that can also be a huge outreach program.  The trick, if it can be managed, is to hand out codes 2-3 at a time for small-medium groups; ideally you want 2-3 friends grabbing them, playing the game, and having such a blast that they start making others get the game to try it as well.

Also, if some people are going to be playing for a while, getting some Twitch streams going would be stellar. :)

You guys know about Cr1tikal right?

He's a Youtuber that does videos of games, recently talked about Void Expanse in one of his videos.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LTih2AnRDDU

Said that he reached out to the devs of this game for the possibility of doing voice acting for you.
Seize this opportunity!
Connect with him!

You guys say you can get an average of 500-1,000 views from a popular youtuber with 10k subs?
Well this guy has over a million, which means 50,000 - 100,000 views if we adhere to your math.

Meet with him, talk to him, and agree to hire him and pay him a decent wage on the condition that he does a short Void Expanse mini-series.
If it works out, you get voice acting and very good publicity for a fairly cheap price.

It's only a suggestion, but it's one I would /highly/ suggest looking into as soon as possible.

Lurler

Yup. That's true. We did work with him to record voice for the game. We plan to release one of the next big versions with voice in the game.
But we want to do it when we first record a female voice as well. We've been accused of sausage fest enough times, so this time we would prefer to give people options :)
So, yeah...
Anyway, he is an awesome guy btw, and I personally like his channel.
